Yesterday we received a simple gift from a friend. It was a container of liquid hand soap. With the soap was a message about hands.
It made me thinks of our past year.
Terry's hands continue to greet new life as they come into the world, and in doing surgery to help the ill or afflicted. His hands continue to serve in the Church, wherever he is asked.
My hands get to lead the primary children in song each week. They get to clean a warm home, and fold freshly washed laundry. My hands have gone back to school, typing and taking test in Statistics, Sociology and religion.
We have both enjoyed using our hands attending the new Twin Falls Temple.
John and Becky's hands are busy taking care of a new child, Matthew. And it takes both of them to keep up to him. John continues to create with his hands, and Becky works part time at Primary Children's making appointments for sick children to see the Dr. Matthew has discovered his hands, and can use them to touch his toes, put things in his mouth and give love to all who come in contact with him.
Mike's hand had the opportunity to touch places in the Middle East while studying in Jerusalem for a semester. He has used his hands to write paper after paper for school at BYUI.
Jenny's hands are learning sign language for her major of communication disorders at BYU Provo. She gets little time to use her hands to play the piano. She and Mike were both able to offer hands of friendship to teenagers attending EFY this summer.
Kim's hands have learned to do chemistry experiments, acting in the play, "West Side Story". Her hands were able to place some of the mortar in the cornerstone of the new Twin Falls Temple. She uses her hands to bless our home and to give nightly hugs to her "old" parents.
Jenny and Kim's hands traveled to Europe for a 15 day once in a life time experience.
But the note received with the soap was about our Savior Jesus Christ's hands. It talked of His tiny hands as a babe born in a manger. His hands that guided Moses, and strengthened Joshua. His determined hands that drove the money changers from the temple and the loving hands that blessed little children. His strong hands opened deaf ears, restored vision to sightless eyes, and cleansed the leper and healed the lame. On His hands are the marks from the cross, where He gave the ultimate sacrifice for our sins, and the ultimate gift of eternal life, if we but follow Him.
It is my wish to all that read this to earnestly seek after His giving hands, emulate His serving hands. May all our hand be clean and our hearts pure in all that we do and say.
Merry Christmas!
